Patrick Ring is the Managing Director of the Baker-Meekins Company, Inc., having joined the firm in 1992. Mr. Ring is responsible for client administration, as well as for the firm’s practice in valuing family limited partnerships and limited liability companies. He advises owners of privately held businesses on issues ranging from corporate and ownership planning to the resolution of shareholder disputes. Mr. Ring has specialized in using valuation as a tool with which to build an exit strategy for client’s interests in their businesses, whether through a sale to a third party, to the family or to the employees.
Mr. Ring has co-authored (with Ross Adams, President) or been featured in over 30 published valuation and strategy articles for regional and national publications, including Family Business magazine, The Wall Street Journal, Print & Graphics, etc. He has made presentations to university-based Family Business Centers, regional Estate Planning Councils and CPE programs for Attorneys and CPAs. Topics deal with business valuation and its application to business and ownership strategies.
In 2002, Mr. Ring was appointed as one of three disinterested members of an Appraisal Panel in U.S. District Court for the District of Maryland Northern Division. The Panel was appointed pursuant to Section 3-210 of the MD Corporations and Associations Article to determine the fair value of a company’s stock in connection with shareholder litigation. He acted as Chairman of the Panel, whose majority opinion was upheld by the US Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit.
Prior to Baker-Meekins, Mr. Ring was in investment banking at MNC Investment Bank (Baltimore) and at Mellon Bank (Pittsburgh).
